BEAVERCREEK — Sidney’s season ended in a sectional semifinal loss at Beavercreek on Thursday. The Beavers are the defending Div. I state champions and beat Sidney 9-0 in a sectional match last year.

“We had a great game plan for tonight’s game. Their strength was in the middle of the field, so we dropped back and played more defensively, and relied on the counterattack,” Sidney coach Jamie Fridley said. “Losing 4-0 is a mental win for us (compared to last year), plus we never gave up more than four goals to any team all season.

“We are very proud of our boys, for not giving up and giving us 110 percent for 80 minutes. All in all, it was a good season. …We are looking forward to next season, with a lot of great pieces coming back.”

The No. 11 seed Yellow Jackets finish 8-8-2 overall. Sidney sophomore forward Braden Guinther was second in the 20-team Greater Western Ohio Conference with 16 goals while senior goalkeeper Noah Houts was fifth with 117 saves.

West Liberty-Salem 1, Lehman Catholic 0

The No. 18 seed Cavaliers gave the No. 3 Tigers a fight in a Div. III sectional semifinal on Thursday in West Liberty. A goal early in the first half was enough to lift the Tigers to a victory.

Despite a fast, up-tempo game, the Cavaliers could not land a shot in the net.

Lehman, which finished third in the Western Ohio Soccer League this year, ends the season with an 8-8-2 overall record. It was the first season for coach Cameron Jock.

Elijah Jock and Conor O’Leary earned first team all-WOSL honors while Matthew McDonald and Will Voisard were named to second team and Michael Denning and Christian Goettemoeller were named honorable mention.

West Liberty’s goal came when Chris Stokes scored in the first half on a header off an assist from Ian Wolfe.
