VANDALIA — Sidney was among the large number of teams to compete in the Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association Holiday Tournament at Vandalia, which began on Monday.

First-day results from Sidney were highlighted by three wrestlers who finished with three wins in four matches. They included Will Wallace at 160 pounds, Javon Purk at 195 and Jac Beatty at heavyweight. They are all still in the competition.

Allen Tangeman at 138 pounds won once in three matches, but is out of the tournament, as are Phil Bertsch at 113 and Seth Vonderheuvel at 182 after both lost their first two bouts.

“I was pleased with the effort,” said Sidney coach Clayton Westerbeck. “Will Wallace pulled a match out with three seconds left, Javon had a great comeback win and Jac wrestled very tough against the second seed. We are improving.”

The Jackets returned to the tournament Tuesday morning.
