Monday roundup: New Bremen beats Fort Recovery, advances to district final

VAN WERT — Less than two weeks after losing to Fort Recovery in a Midwest Athletic Conference game, New Bremen beat the Indians 3-0 in a district semifinal on Monday.

The Cardinals (20-4) advance to face St. Henry (17-4) in a district final on Thursday in Van Wert. The Redskins (22-2) beat Marion Local 3-2 on Monday to advance.

New Bremen won 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 on Monday. Taylor Paul had 10 kills while Ashton Heitkamp and Rachel Kremer each had seven kills. Josie Reinhart, Claire Pape and Macy Puthoff each had five kills. Blake Snider and Madison Pape each had eight digs. Abbi Thieman had 23 assists and Madison Pape had 15 assists.

Fort Recovery (20-4) won the Oct. 9 match against the Cardinals 25-14, 25-23, 25-20.

New Bremen will now try to win another tournament match against a MAC opponent it lost to in regular season. St. Henry beat the Cardinals 25-22, 27-29, 25-21, 25-23 on Sept. 13.

Boys soccer

Dayton Christian 5, Jackson Center 1

Jackson Center’s season ended with a loss to Dayton Christian in a sectional final on Monday at Newton High School.

The Tigers finish 8-7-3 overall. They’ll look to improve upon their sectional final appearance next year with several all-Western Ohio Soccer League players returning. Juniors Clay Akers and Jerron Reese were first team, while Garrett Heitkamp was second team.
