MINSTER — The Minster Lady Wildcats clinched at least a share of the Midwest Athletic Conference championship Thursday night with a win in a big showdown with Fort Recovery in girls basketball action.

The 46-37 victory put eighth-ranked Minster at 8-0 in the MAC and 16-3 overall and gave them a one-game lead over Recovery with just one league game to play, next Thursday at Coldwater. Recovery, ranked 14th in the state in Division 3, is 6-1 and 14-3.

Minster led by as many as five in the opening period at 11-6, the last four points coming at the line after a Fort Recovery foul and technical.

It was 11-8 after one quarter, but the Lady Indians shaved a point off that lead, and Minster’s margin was just two at the half at 17-15.

The third quarter proved to be the key for Minster. The Lady Wildcats went on a 10-4 run to make it a 27-19 score, and after Recovery came back to make it 27-22, LeAnn Huelsman hit the first of her two straight three-pointers to push the lead to 33-24, which is how it stood after three quarters.

The Lady Wildcats were then content to put the game away at the line, and they wound up hitting 21 for 28 from the stripe for the game, including 9 for 15 in the final period.

Minster had two in double figures, with Huelsman and Rosie Westerbeck finishing with 11 apiece. The balance was outstanding, though, with Courtney Prenger adding nine and Lindsey Roetgerman and Hannah Schmitmeyer eight apiece.

Westerbeck was 6 for 6 from the line, Huelsman 5 for 7, Schmitmeyer 4 for 5 and Prenger 7 for 10.
