FORT LORAMIE — The Fort Loramie Redskins pulled off a big upset in County boys basketball Friday night, knocking off the Anna Rockets 58-49.

The loss was costly for the Rockets, who came into the game tied with Russia for second place, one game behind the Russia Raiders.

Now the Rockets are 7-3 in the league and two games behind the Tigers. Overall, Anna is 11-7.

Fort Loramie is 4-7 in the league and 7-11 overall and hosts Marion Local tonight.

Loramie led 24-22 at the half, then came out and opened up a 34-24 lead. But the Rockets went on a 12-0 run to take a 36-34 lead late in the third quarter.

However, by the end of the period, the Redskins had come back and taken a 38-36 lead, then began to pull away in the final period thanks to a big advantage in free throws.

Loramie players toed the free throw line 30 times on the night and dropped in 25 of them. Drew Wehrman, who finished with 19 points, hit 11 of 13 from the line.

“The kids deserved it,” said Loramie coach Corey Britton. “We’ve been close, and we were finally able to come out on top. The kids really fought hard and stepped up and made free throws.”

Dillon Braun added 16 points for the Redskins, and Tyler Siegel pulled down 10 rebounds.

For Anna, Blake Stephens finished with 12, but only two came after the first quarter, when he scored all his team’s points. Joel Cathcart added 10.

HOUSTON — Russia pulled away in the final period to hand Houston a 58-37 setback in County boys action Friday night,

The win gave Russia sole possession of second place in the County after Anna lost to Loramie. The Raiders are 8-2 in the league and 15-3 overall and host Springfield Catholic tonight.

Houston is 1-9 in the league and 5-10 overall and is at Troy Christian tonight.

The Raiders led most of the night, but the margin was just six after three periods at 35-29.

Russia put nine players in the scoring column, none of them in double figures.

Houston got 19 from Zach Freytag and 10 from Domyneik Phipps.
