TROTWOOD — Sidney’s next game Wednesday night at home against Troy will be another step in the Lady Jackets’ quest for a perfect regular season.

But that goal might be overshadowed by the quest of senior standout Sylvia Hudson.

Hudson’s 22 points Saturday led the Lady Jackets to a 55-37 victory over Trotwood, and wrapped up an outright Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division championship. And it gave the team a 20-0 record.

But what Hudson’s scoring also did was put her very much within reach of a hallowed record — the school’s all time leading scorer in girls basketball.

She goes into Wednesday night’s home game needing just three more points to break the record of 1,443 set by one of Sidney’s all-time greats, Tangela Wells, who played from 1981-84.

“This is a huge accomplishment for Sylvia,” said Sidney coach Megan Mummey. “She could have easily got the record (Saturday), but she wanted to do it on Senior Night (Wednesday) in front of her home crowd. She has started varsity for me since she was a freshman and I’m excited to be a part of something so special. I know the unselfishness of this team and they will want to make it happen for Sylvia Wednesday night. We’ve had an outstanding year, and this just puts the icing on the cake.”

Sidney’s latest win clinched the inevitable — a division championship. The 4th-ranked Lady Jackets are 8-0 in the North and hold a three-game lead with just two remaining. They will host Troy Wednesday and Greenville on Saturday before preparing for postseason play.

Sidney started slow Saturday, trailing 10-7 after one and leading 19-13 at the half. But the Lady Jackets had a huge third quarter, outscoring the Lady Rams 19-5 to take control.

“Trotwood came out with some energy at the start, but we kicked it into gear,” said Mummey. “I’m happy with the way we handled ourselves today. We had a lot of girls contribute in different ways. Celena Taborn was big inside, Carrie Nuss hit some threes for us, and Ashley Egan finished with four assists.”

Taborn had 16 points, hitting 5 for 7 from the field and 6 for 9 from the line.

Trotwood (37) — Martin 5, Thornton 1, Thompson 11, Ahman 4, Flucas 8, Boykin 4, Woodward 1, Curry 3.
