FORT LORAMIE — Fort Loramie evened the season series with Anna, and in the process pulled even in the County girls basketball race.

The Lady Redskins built up a lead of as much as 17 at one point and went on to hand the state’s No. 2-ranked Division 3 team a 52-43 setback in action Saturday at Fort Loramie.

Both teams are now 9-1 in the league and both have County games remaining with Houston and Jackson Center.

Overall, Loramie is now 14-4 and Anna 17-2.

It came down to a big third quarter for the Lady Redskins. They led 13-11 after a quarter and the margin was still two at the half. But they came out and scored the first eight points of the third quarter and went on to outpoint the Lady Rockets 19-7 in the quarter to carry a 14-point bulge into the final period.

Anna made a run, but Loramie was not seriously threatened down the stretch.

Jessica Boerger had 15 for Loramie, which was ranked No. 10 in D-4 this week, and Holly Frey added 12. Boerger finished with a double-double, adding 12 rebounds. Maddie Brandewie had nine points off the bench.

Anna was led by Nicole Barhorst with 16 and Avery Bensman with 10 to go with six assists. Barhorst and Sarah Bettinger both pulled down eight rebounds.

Loramie was 17 for 44 from the field for 38 percent and Anna 15 for 43 for 34 percent.

Loramie got the job done at the line, canning 17 of 23 for 73 percent. Anna was 10 for 17.

Minster 59, Arlington 46

MINSTER — The Minster girls should find themselves shooting up in the girls Division 4 state rankings this week after knocking off No. 2-ranked and previously unbeaten Arlington in action Saturday afternoon at Minster.

The Lady Wildcats, ranked No. 8 in the state last week, go to 17-3 overall and drop Arlington to 18-1.

Minster used a big first quarter to gain the upper hand, leading 13-4 when it ended. They opened it up to 27-15 at the half and never let up, leading 42-25 going to the final period.

Lindsey Roetgerman had 18 to lead Minster, Courtney Prenger added 11 and Hannah Schmitmeyer finished with 10.

Jackson 49, Fairlawn 32

JACKSON CENTER —Jackson Center pulled away in the third quarter behind Cassie Meyer and went on to beat Fairlawn in County girls play Saturday, 49-32.

The Lady Tigers are 6-3 in the league and 12-6 overall. Fairlawn is 0-11 and 4-16.

Meyer hit all three of her three-pointers in the third quarter as Jackson outpointed the Lady Jets 17-7 in the quarter to open up a 49-32 bulge.

Meyer finished with 11, as did Peyton Esser, but it was Nicole Fogt leading with 14.

Fairlawn’s Audrey Francis had 16.

RUSSIA — Russia trailed by eight at the half but dominated the final two periods with free throws and defeated Houston 52-44 in County girls play Saturday.

The Lady Raiders snapped a three-game losing streak and evened their County record at 5-5. They are now 11-9 overall.

Houston dropped to 4-6 in the league and 7-12 overall.

Russia paraded to the free throw line 31 times and canned 22 of them, all in the second half, to come from behind. Maria Herron had 16 attempts from the line and dropped in 14 of them on her way to a game-high 23 points.

Jenna Winner had 13 and Macey Stang 12 for the Lady Wildcats.

BOTKINS — Botkins rolled to a 31-11 lead at the half and went on to beat Lima Perry 59-30 in non-league girls basketball action Saturday.

Botkins is now 9-11 on the season and Perry 1-17.

Kayla Heuker had 16 for Botkins and Sarah Bergman had 11 points and nine rebounds.

NEW KNOXVILLE — New Knoxville won its second straight, beating St. Marys in non-league play Saturday 56-49.

The Lady Rangers are now 12-8 on the season heading to Fort Recovery Thursday.

Abby Lageman tossed in 17 and Kenzie Schroer added 13 to lead Knoxville.
