Three area players have been named players of the year and numerous others have earned spots on first- or second team in their team’s respective divisions in the all-Southwest district football teams, which were announced on Thursday by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.

Anna seniors Riley Huelskamp and Wil Luthman were named Division VI offensive and defensive players of the year, respectively, and Fort Loramie junior Max Hoying was named the Div. VI defensive player of the year.

Three Sidney players were named first or second team in D-II, while Anna had several players earn spots in D-VI and Fort Loramie, Lehman Catholic and Riverside had several players earn spots in D-VII.

All-district selections are based on regular-season performance only.

Sidney seniors Ryan Cagle and Darren Taborn were named first team defense in D-II, while sophomore E.J. Davis was named second team offense.

Cagle, a linebacker, led the team with 90.5 tackles and had two forced fumbles. Taborn, a defensive back, had 24 tackles and two interceptions. Both players were three-year starters for the squad.

Davis, a running back, led the Miami Valley League with 1,329 rushing yards and scored 10 touchdowns. He averaged 8.1 yards per carry.

Versailles senior defensive back Nathan Wagner was named second team defense in D-V. Wagner had 80 tackles.

Aside from Huelskamp and Luthman, Anna’s Bart Bixler, Luke Dye, Malachi Minnich and Isaac Lininger were named first team in D-VI.

Huelskamp ran for 1,516 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns on 161 carries. He averaged 9.4 yards per carry. He finished with 2,032 total offensive yards. Bixler, a senior quarterback, threw for 1,080 yards and 12 touchdowns and ran for 1,008 yards and 20 TDs on 124 carries. Dye, a senior offensive lineman and was named first team offense along with Huelskamp and Bixler.

Luthman, a defensive lineman, had 52 tackles, three sacks, one interception and two fumble recoveries. Minnich, a senior defensive end, had 64 tackles, four sacks and two fumble recoveries. Lininger, a senior defensive back, had three interceptions, two fumble recoveries and 36 tackles.

Fort Loramie’s Collin Moore, Nick Brandewie, Blake Holthaus, Josh Pangilinan, Mack Fortman and Mark Seger were named first team along with Hoying and Lehman’s Brendan O’Leary, Connor Stewart, Ethan Potts, John Edwards and Drew Barhorst and Riverside’s Kale Long and Ethan Burrows.

Moore, a junior quarterback, had 1,434 all-purpose yards and 18 total touchdowns. Brandewie, a senior tight end, led the squad with 458 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Holthaus and Pangilinan are senior offensive lineman and was named first team offensive along with Moore and Brandewie.

Hoying, a linebacker, had 52.5 tackles and 3.5 sacks and was named first team defense along with Fortman and Seger. Fortman, a junior, had 21.5 tackles and four sacks. Seger, a senior defensive back, had 22.5 tackles and three interceptions.

O’Leary set Lehman’s single-season receiving yardage record this year. He had 964 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns and was named first team offense along with Stewart, a junior offensive lineman, and Potts, a senior kicker. Potts made 25-of-29 extra point attempts and 3-of-3 field goal attempts.

Edwards, a sophomore linebacker, was named first team defense along with Barhorst. He had 142 tackles and three interceptions. Barhorst, a senior defensive back, had 80 tackles, two interceptions and three fumble recoveries.

Long, a junior quarterback, became the first quarterback in Riverside to pass and throw for 1,000 yards in the same season. He ran for 1,455 yards and 17 touchdowns and threw for 1,059 yards and nine TDs. Burrows, a junior lineman, was named first team offense along with Long.
