Long loses first match,Versailles wrestlers win

COLUMBUS — Lehman’s Wyatt Long lost his first match in the Division 3 State Wrestling Tournament, which got underway at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus Thursday.

Long was taking on the pre-tournament favorite in the 195-pound weight class in Gaige Willis of Andover Pymatuning Valley, and the match ended in a 6-1 decision.

Willis went to 42-0 on the season with that win, and dropped Long to 42-9.

Long’s next opponent will be Nathan Price of Galion Northmor, who is now 30-18.

Meanwhile, three Versailles wrestlers were also in action Thursday.

At 145, Tanner Bey was victorious in his first match of the tournament, defeating Devin Crum of Union Local 9-4. Bey, a No. 2 seed, is now 44-8 and will take on a 1-seed in his next match in Derek Gross of Norwalk St. Paul.

Teammate Jonathan Moorman, a No. 3 seed at 170 pounds, also advanced with a win, dominating No. 2-seed Kasey Bethel of West Lafayette Ridgewood 16-7. He is now 37-11 and will next meet 1-seed Brad Mendoza of Gibsonburg.

And at 183, No. 2 seed Jerome Bey followed suit, defeating 3-seed Nick Shephard of Navarre Fairless in a 4-3 thriller. Bey is now 37-10 and is matched against Tanner May of Carey in his next match.
