FORT LORAMIE — Fort Loramie pushed a run across in the bottom of the ninth to avoid an upset bid by Houston in County baseball action Wednesday at Loramie, 7-6.

A loss would have been disastrous for the Redskins, who are just one game behind Russia in the standings, and host the Raiders a week from today.

Loramie is now 9-2 in the league and 15-9 overall. Houston drops to 4-7 and 7-15.

Loramie found itself in a hole after Houston scored five times in the top of the third inning to take a three-run lead. Each team added a run, and Houston went to the bottom of the seventh with a 6-3 margin.

But Loramie dug deep and got three runs to tie it, then won it in the ninth. Carter Siegel’s big two-out, two-run double in the seventh to knot the score was the key hit of the game.

Then in the seventh, Ben Barhorst walked to start the inning, and went to third when Dylan Albers’ grounder was midplayed for an error. An intentional walk to Daniel Berning loaded the bases, and with Siegel up, a wild pitch allowed Barhorst to speed home from third with the winning run.

Albers had a big day for the Redskins, going 3-for-5 with a home run. Siegel added a single to his double.

Isaiah Beaver and Dylan Hensley were both 2-for-5 for the Wildcats.

Lehman 9, Ridgemont 4

Lehman finished off the Northwest Central Conference schedule undefeated, beating runner-up Ridgemont 9-4 in league action at Lehman Wednesday.

The win gave the Cavaliers a 14-0 record in the NWCC and the outright title, and they are now 21-2 overall.

“I was really proud of the kids because we faced a tough pitcher and a team that was really wanting to get us,” said Lehman coach Dave King. “We struggled with pitching early but Jared Rourke came in and did a good job, and we played much better after that.”

Rourke relieved in the second and finished out the game.

Tyler Lachey, Parker Riley and Jared Magoteaux all singled and doubled for the Cavs, with Riley driving in three runs. Brandon Barhorst scored three times and Lachey twice.
