Flora takes first in Anna Invitational

ANNA — The Anna Invitational attracted 262 varsity boys runners and 205 girls runners Saturday in a huge meet before participants settle their respective league races next weekend.

Chloe Flora of Botkins continued her outstanding season, winning the girls race in 18:16.2, well ahead of the runner-up from Lima Catholic, who was nearly 30 seconds back.

McAuley was the girls team champion, with the best finish by a county/area team being Russia, which placed third with 82 points, 19 behind McAuley and five behind Lakota West.

Lauren Heaton was the only other top ten finisher from the county, placing sixth in 19:40.4.

Cincinnati LaSalle won the boys championship in impressive fasnion, totaling just 39 points to 68 for runner-up Anna.

Anna was led by Lucas Huber in fifth place in 16:20.1. Caleb Ball of Russia was eighth in 16:33.4 and Cameron Flora of Botkins ninth in 16:43.3.

Junior high

The Botkins boys were second, Russia third and Houston fourth in the 11-team junior high race.

Mason Dapore of Russia took second in 11:20.1, Jackson Center’s Christopher Elchert was fourth in 11:222.3, Blake Jacobs of Houston placed fifth in 11:45.7, Alan Fullenkamp of Botkins was eighth in 11:55.6, and Anna’s Caleb Gaier took ninth in 12:07.6.

In the girls junior high race, Botkins was second and Russia third out of 11 teams.

Making the top 10 were Kenzi Voisard or Russia, fourthin 12:38, Mackenzie Cole of Anna sixth in 12:59, and Jill Greve of Botkins ninth in 12:17.8.
