New Bremen, New Knoxvilleto meet in D-4 district finals

VAN WERT — New Bremen, the No. 1 seed, advanced to the district championship game in Division 4 volleyball action Tuesday night with a 3-0 win over Delphos St. John’s in the semifinals at Van Wert High School.

The Lady Cardinals won the first game 27-25, then posted 25-19, 25-9 wins to advance with an 18-8 record to the championship against Midwest Athletic Conference rival New Knoxville, the No. 3 seed. That game will be tonight at Van Wert at 6:30.

Paige Jones had 15 kills, 10 digs and three solo blocks for the Lady Cardinals, Devon Heitkamp had nine kills and seven digs, Kaitlyn Schwieterman had 18 assists, Madison Pape 10 assists and Ali Howell 13 digs.

Kaitlyn Ahrns was lethal from the service line, finishing with eight aces.

• New Knoxville also advanced to the championship by beating second-seeded Marion Local 3-1 in the other semifinal Thursday.

The scores were 25-11, 25-18, 17-25, 26-24.

The win put the Lady Rangers at 16-9 on the season.
