MAPLEWOOD — A semi-truck fire caused a near total loss to the vehicle on Chris Gibbs’ farm in the 21000 block of state Route 47 in Maplewood on Jan. 25.

According to Gibbs, the truck and trailer were used to haul soybeans that morning and were parked at 1 p.m. At 6:25 p.m., tenants living at Gibbs’ farm called to report the truck was on fire and they had called 911. Residents Jackie, Paul, and Savannah Kindle used available fire extinguishers and water to assist until Maplewood Volunteer Fire personnel arrived. Chief Jeff Noah assisted Gibbs in detaching the grain trailer from the 2005 International Semi so it could be pulled clear of the trailer. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is undetermined.

“I am so very grateful for my local volunteer firefighters,” said Gibbs. “This is why when these organizations have a fish fry, a fundraiser, or a levy, folks and voters better be there supporting them.”
