Fort Loramie boys golf team edges Anna

SIDNEY — Fort Loramie’s boys golf team edged Anna 170-172 in a key Shelby County Athletic League match on Thursday night at Shelby Oakes Golf Course.

Mitchell Puthoff and Jared Middendorf both shot 41 for the Redskins, while Anna’s Eli Kuck also shot 41. Zach Pleiman had a 42 for Fort Loramie, while Craig Eilerman and Eli Rosengarten both had 46. Shea Swick had a 49 for the Redskins.

Cole Maurer shot 42 for Anna, Evan Bensman had a 44, Bryce Havener had a 45, Mason Platfoot had a 47 and Isaac Cain had a 53.

Fort Loramie plays Marion Local at the Mercer County Elks on Friday, while Anna is off until a Tuesday match against Houston at Shelby Oakes.

Boys

Fairlawn’s boys golf team beat Botkins 213-219 on Thursday afternoon at Shelby Oakes. Botkins junior Nick Fischio had the best score of the day with a 45, while Luke Hickman led Fairlawn with a 47.

Chester Hughes and Jackson Jones each shot 53 for Fairlawn. Doug Wright and Kyle Peters both had 60, while Skylar Piper had a 65. Anthony Opperman had a 50 for Botkins, Alex Bajwa had a 56, Connor Stutsman had a 68, Marcus Lee had an 81 and Parker Geis had an 84.

Botkins returns to Shelby Oakes on Friday for a match hosted by Lehman. Fairlawn will play Houston at Shelby Oakes.

Lehman 168, Arcanum 194

Tyler Lachey led Lehman with a 39 in Thursday’s match at Shelby Oakes. Ryan Schmidt and Cole Gilardi both had 40 for the Cavilers, while Brandyn Sever had a 48.

Minnich Classic

The 19th annual Dick Minnich Charity Classic was held recently at Shelby Oaks, and tournament director Andy Johnson was pleased with the turnout.

“Great weather, great sponsors, and great people all combined for a fantastic 29th Annual Dick Minnich Charity Golf Classic.,” Johnson said. “Thanks to everyone’s generosity and support we were able to raise another $4,500 this year. The money will go towards senior scholarships and other programs that support the youth of Covington. That brings our 29 year total up to $116,500.”

Low gross was a tie between the teams of Andy Johnson, Ashley Johnson, Jay Meyer NS Rory Hoke; and Rick Short, John Schilling, Bob Supinger, Scott Schwartz. Their names will be added to the Johnson Trophy. Low net winners this year were Doug Foster, Rob Kiser, Mike Meredith, and Caleb Lavey.

“Next year will be our 30th year, and we plan on doing it big,” Johnson said. “We hope to see everyone next year on August 14.”
