The playground will be opened to all small children of Sidney next Monday and to the large ones a week later. Miss Fullington and Miss Sollenberger will be in charge and regular classes for play will be arranged according to the age and advancement of the children. Mrs. Eccles will assist in organizing games for her older group the following week. The Federation of Women’s Clubs at a recent meeting voted the sum of $100 to buy apparatus for the small children. Within a few days slides, swings and ladders will be installed.

This afternoon 17 girls are enjoying a picnic at the old saw mill north of the city in honor of Misses Doris Warner and Hazel Moser who leave next week to take a summer course at Miami university, Oxford, and Miss Olive Murray, who will study at Muskingum, New Concord.

Torrents of rain, flung in sheets by the fury of a cloud burst, transformed Sidney streets into a Venice-like channels shortly after 6 o’clock last evening, while fierce flashes of lightning and high winds wreaked havoc with tree branches and electric and telephone lines. The storm dropped 1.4 inches of rain in a half-hour period. Lighting stuck at least three places including the Masonic Temple, and started a fire at the Raymond Magato home on Mound street. There were numerous power outages and city streets were flooded.

Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Dearth have had the pleasure of attending the graduation exercises for their two sons within a week of each other. The older son Huffman Dearth graduated last week from Graceland College, LaMot, Iowa, and brother Harold Jr., graduated from Howe Military Academy.

Mary Ann Strayer, R.R. 2, Sidney, will represent Shelby County in the State Pork Queen Contest, on June 19 at the annual Ohio Pork Industry Day picnic at Greene County, fairgrounds, Xenia. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Strayer.

Members of Heiland Post No. 446 of the American Legion elected and installed new officers when they met for their regular meeting Tuesday evening at the post home. Installed by Thurman Milledge, Jackson Center, Second district vice commander were: Jerry L. Harrod, of Botkins, commander:Fred Carey, Anna, first vice commander; Phil Wilt, Anna second vice commander, Eugene Dress, adjutant: Eugene Rickert, Botkins, finance officer; Jason Short, Anna, Chaplin.

Two Sidney students have been named to the spring quarter dean’s list at Ohio Northern University in Ada. Sharon Spinner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Spinner and Erick Young, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Young have been named to the dean’s list. Students must have a grade point average of a least 3.5 to attain dean’s list status.

Scott Davis, recently was shown with his dog Satan. Scott was in and out of trouble most of the last few years, says he turned his life around with a stay at Boys Town in Nebraska. He is now in the United States Navy and is working toward a happy and restored life of good instead of bad.
