Sidney Fire promotes two firefighters

SIDNEY — Two firefighters with new ranks were introduced to Sidney City Council Monday night.

Fire Chief Brad Jones said due to the retirement of Assistant Chief Scott Boyer, former Lt. Eric Barhorst was promoted to assistant chief. With Barhorst’s promotion, Dallas Davis was promoted to lieutenant. Both promotions were effective Monday, June 22.

Both men, said Jones, are the sons of retired firefighters. Barhorst’s dad is the Jerome Barhorst, who is the retired Fort Loramie fire chief. Davis’s father, Dallas, recently retired as a lieutenant from the Dayton Fire Department.

Barhorst has been with the Sidney Department of Fire & Emergency Services since June 13, 1999. He was promoted to lieutenant on Oct. 25, 2009. He is a firefighter/paramedic and a member of the rope and fast-water rescue, trench and confined space teams.

He is an inspector and CRP and Fire instructor as well as being a part of the health and safety committee. He was named firefighter of the year in 2005. He has an associated degree in fire science.

Barhorst and his wife, Betsy, reside in Fort Loramie with their three children.

Davis, who has been with the department since Aug. 30, 2004, is a firefighter and paramedic. He is the department’s training officer. He is a member of the rope and fast-water rescue teams, an inspector and instructor and investigator, He is a member of the MES, training, health and safety, labor/management, marketing and uniform committees. He is also a member of the wellness committee for the city.

Davis has an associate degree in fire administration. He was the 2015 firefighter of the year. He and his wife, Bridget, and their three children reside in the Sidney area.

Davis shared one story with those present.

“I was taking a class at Sinclair College,” said Davis/ “There was this funny looking guy there from Sidney. It turned out to be Eric Barhorst.”

And now the two are working together, continuing the firefighting legacy their fathers started.
