June 25, 1915

Three young men arrested yesterday morning at the C.H. & D water tank on charges of carrying revolvers, were arraigned last evening before Mayor Crozier. They entered not guilty pleas to the charge of carrying concealed weapons and were bound over to the grand jury. The special jury now in session will probably consider the case.

C.A. Sexauer has received a letter from his brother at his old home in Germany telling of the death of their mother in February. Worry over the war apparently contributed to her death. Mr. Sexauer’s father died last October during the early stages of the war. The letter also advised that several nephews have lost their lives during the conflict.

75 years

June 25, 1940

Two Dayton women, charged with highway robbery in the holdup of Lon Stockstill on East Court street earlier this week, entered pleas of not guilty when they appeared before Mayor Sexauer yesterday afternoon. They were bound over to common pleas court and in lieu of $25OO bail were sent to jail. The two men arrested with them have been released as there was no evidence to show they were connected with the case.

Miss Geraidine Gaines, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Gaines who recently graduated from Flower Hospital in Toledo, has returned to that hospital where she has a position on the nursing staff. She has been a guest with her mother here for the past two weeks.

50 years

June 25, 1965

David L. Dudgeon son of Mr. and Mrs. Buriegh E. Dudgeon, Jackson Center, received his doctor of medicine degree at the annual commencement exercises at Ohio State University. Dr. Dudgeon will serve his internship at the University of Florida, Gainesville, Fla. He will report at the University on July 1, 1965.

Assignments of Elementary school principals in the Sidney public school system for the coming year were announced today by Superintendent Roger McGee. The two new principals are Lee Elsass, a native of Anna, who has been associated with South Central Schools near Greenwich in Huron county, and Howard Henderson, formerly with the Crestview school system in Richland and Ashland counties. Elsass will be principal for the Lowell-Orange combination, while Henderson will serve as principal at Emerson Elementary.

June 25, 1990

Almecia Jones, 11 month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Jones will represent Ohio in the national NAACP baby contest being held in Los Angeles, Calif., July 7-13. On Saturday, there will be a barbecue dinners, hot dogs and other sandwiches for sale at Humphrey Park in support of Almecia. The contest is geared to build youth councils across the nation .B.A.B.Y stands for “Be A Better Youth.”The funds raised will help the state NAACP implement its T.I.P.S.A. program-teen illiteracy, pregnancy, and substance abuse.

Christopher J. Francis received a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont. Graduation exercises were June 9. Francis is a 1984 graduate of Sidney high School. He is a graduate of Sterling college in Craftsbury Commons, Vermont, and holds an associate degree in wildlife management from Hocking Technical College in Nelsonville. Francis is currently employed as the fish and wildfowl manager for the Flying D ranch in southwester Montana. The ranch is owned by Turner Properties which is owned by Ted Turner, the cable TV executive.
