Chief of Police O’Leary reminded local residents today that there is a city ordinance governing sale and shooting of firecrackers within the city limits. He warned that it is unlawful and that those caught selling or shooting any type of fireworks inside the city will be subject to arrest and prosecution.

While John Dillon of McCartyville was setting on the curb on the east side of the public square Saturday night, some unknown person slipped up behind him and hit him over the head with a club or piece of gas pipe. Dillon was unconscious from the blow and taken to the emergency hospital for treatment. For a time it was feared he had been seriously injured, but he recovered sufficiently to be placed on a northbound traction car for Anna and from there taken to his home. His assailant escaped.

Eugene Minniear, operator of Buck’s Taxi, has purchased and taken charge of the Steinkemper hotel on West Court street from Robert Oldham. Announcement of the change was made today. The building has been in the Oldham estate for a number of years. Minniear plans to redecorate the hotel building both inside and out. The name will be changed to the Central hotel. It will be headquarters for all bus transportation, as well as Buck’s taxi, delivery and storage.

At a recent meeting of committee chairman connected with the annual picnic at Holy Angels parish, the date of Thursday, Aug 5, was selected for the holding of the affair. It will be held at the Shelby County fairgrounds as usual. Richard Salm is general chairman for the picnic, with Charles Weingartner general treasurer.

Four years in the U.S. Air Force was completed last week by John M. Crusey of Sidney and he has returned to his home. The son of Mr. and Mrs. John (Zack) Crusey the airman received his military service discharge at Whiteman Air Force base, Sedalia, Mo.

Weather conditions are about the only thing that remained to be arranged for the 1965 Shelby County fair, July 31-Aug 6, following a meeting of the Agricultural Society Saturday night at the grounds. The annual gamble with the clouds soon will be on. What may develop in a top attraction of the whole seven day affair is booked for Saturday night at the grandstand. This will be the appearance of the popular Bonnie Lou and other WLW-D entertainers , according to Secretary William Stewart.

Col. Robert D. Enyeart, a Sidney native, was recently promoted to the rank of colonel and assumed command of the U.S. Army 2nd Recruiting Brigade(Southeast) in a ceremony held in Atlanta, Ga. As the 2nd Recruiting Brigade commander, Enyeart will direct all Army and Army Reserve recruiting operations for ten states in the Southeastern United States as well as Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Enyeart holds a degree from Troy State University. He has been awarded the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal with nine awards, the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Master Aviation Badge.

Douglas Van Fossen graduated June 8 from the Ohio University College of Osteopathy Medicine in Athens with his doctor of osteopathy degree. Van Fossen graduated with honors. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Van Fossen and is a 1978 graduate of Sidney High School and a 1984 graduate of the University of Toledo. Van Fossen and his wife, the former Carol Jenkins of Sidney, reside in Dayton.
