July 6, 1915
Alexander Simpson, a Scotchman, is in the city for a few weeks. He came to Sidney from the golf grounds at Greenbrier White Sulphur Springs at the solicitation of the directors of the country club. He is teacher of the game and will give exhibitions at the golf grounds and private instructions to beginners. He is stopping at the Wagner House, the clerk at the hotel being a former friend of his at Edinburgh, Scotland.

Two Sidney prisoners at the Xenia Workhouse were singled out as the ring leaders of the group of 13 who made good their escape from the workhouse during the early hours this morning. It was alleged David Goode and William Clegg sawed the bars of their cell during the night.

July 6, 1940
Committees of leading citizens, under the direction of Chairman Paul Sherman, are planning Shelby County’s participation in the initial statewide Citizenship Day at Russells Point July 17. Eight counties will take part in the program devoted to citizenship, good fellowship, entertainment and recreation. Highlight of the program will be an address by Gov. John Bricker. The Merchants Association is sponsoring a beauty contest and there will be talent and poster contests. Mrs. Rexford Price will be in charge of the talent feature and Miss Lillian Sexauer, the poster contest.

Among the young people planning to attend the Y.W.C.A. Camp, Luella Mae, near Sommerville, next week are: Dorothy Lerch, Donna Lee Kirby, Sara Bess Loudenback, Phyllis and Judith Pruden, Ann and Margaret Campbell, Patsy Lohmire, Doris Jean McClure and Ruth Miller.

While employees of the Ross Pattern and Foundry, Inc. are on their annual vacation, workmen for Ferguson Construction Co. are simultaneously wrecking an old building while they complete construction of a new addition at the Oak Avenue plant of the industrial firm. Work is being carried on as a two shift, seven day operation to complete the project by the time workmen return from vacation next week.

MINSTER – Village council passed two emergency measures at a meeting in the town hall Tuesday night. One ordinance places a curfew of 12:30 a.m. on all young people under 16 years of age and the other authorizes the clerk to request the board of elections to place a tax levy on the November ballot for the approval of the voters. The tax levy, three mills to run for five years, will be used for general maintenance of the village.

Sidney has a new surgeon. Dr. David Cloney has started to practice. The 37 year old physician will be teaming up with Dr. Enrique Montana and Dr. Robert McDevitt. He will practice general surgery.

The Shelby County Building Industry Association has big plans for the future. Its first parade of homes was a great success. The group sold over 1,000 tickets for county residents to tour under construction. There will be a similar event next year. The plans were announced by association representative Larry Florea.
