Harry C. Connor has purchased property on East Court Street just east of Hilgefort’s place and will erect a garage and salesroom on the property. The building will be of brick with a frontage on Court Street of 55 feet and a depth of 123 feet. Ground will be broken for the new building tomorrow morning.

Bert E. Binkley, former owner of the property had made arrangements to build the garage and had everything ready to begin work when the deal was made and the property sold to Connor.

The home of Mrs. J.B. Hamilton, northwest of Sidney on the St. Marys Pike was struck by lightning during the storm last night. Mrs. Hamilton was stunned by the bolt but not seriously injured. The house received considerable damage.

The first real heat wave of the summer found Sidney residents sweltering along with the rest of the state as Rodney Blake, newly certified official weatherman for Shelby County, reported a temperature reading of 93 degrees today. The scorching temperatures duly initiated Blake into his new position with little in the way of real relief promised over the weekend.

Shelby County Sheriff Truman Pitts is holding four men on a possible charge of auto theft following his investigation of an accident just north of Anna last night, involving the car in which the four were riding and a farm wagon and team being driven by Arthur Zimpfer. Zimpfer and neighbors apprehended two of the men at the accident scene, and three others were captured by the sheriff and deputies at the junction of 274 and the Dixie Highway. One of the group was a juvenile hitchhiker, who was released after being questioned in juvenile court this morning. The car had apparently been stolen in Saratoga, New York, several weeks ago. Both the auto and wagon were extensively damaged.

Nine Sidney young people have returned home from the southwestern senior group camp for rural youth held at Camp Clifton, Greene County. Misses Mildred Widney, Eileen Holeton, Elizabeth West, Edna Jackson, and Lenita Rauhouse, along with Raymond Widney, Oscar Benz, Kendall Falke and Elmer Allen were the Shelby County organization’s representatives.

“The Shelby County Unit of the American Cancer Society has completed its most successful campaign to date with a total of $12,828.49,” Mrs. R. W. Sinks announced today. Mrs. Sinks is executive secretary of the Shelby County Unit.

COLUMBUS – Gov. James A. Rhodes told legislators from Midwestern states Tuesday night that Ohio will build a bridge across Lake Erie to Canada. The governor said a bridge was needed to connect the “greatest industrial base that lies between Buffalo, New York and Detroit, Michigan with the Canadian industrial base around London, Ontario.” Rhodes has ordered the Ohio Highway Department to make a study of the possibility of a bridge connecting Canada with Ohio in the Sandusky area between Cleveland and Toledo.

It was a significant honor. The local Soil Water and Conservation District office received one of 97 national awards given out by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in conjunction with the National Association of Conservation districts. Only three other Ohio districts were accorded the honor. T.he local director is Debra Mohler. They won the award for programming.

It will be a wild time in Lockington this weekend. The Lockington Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a three-day jamboree. Many events will be held, including a steak dinner, an auction, a DJ one night and country music singers the next night. All county residents are encouraged to stop by. Funds will be raised for the department.
