PIQUA — A Troy man is in a Dayton hospital after being shot in Piqua early Wednesday.

Piqua Police Chief Bruce Jamison said units responded to Fountain Park at 1:38 a.m. after it was reported that a man with a gunshot wound had arrived at Upper Valley Medical Center.

The victim, Treshon Whitson, 19, of Troy, was treated at UVMC and later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

Officers obtained information that the suspect and weapon were at 519 Walnut St. in Piqua. The Piqua/Sidney/Shelby County Tactical Response Team was activated and executed a search warrant at the address around 7:15 a.m.

The suspect has been identified as Markell T. Moore, 20, of Piqua. He was taken into custody without incident.

Jamison said that “there is drug history involved” between the pair and that some “possible heroin” was seized during this morning’s search at Walnut Street. However it seems that this shooting may possibly have been a dispute over a female.

Whitson’s condition was listed as “stable” on Wednesday morning, according to our news partners at WDTN. A check just before 2 p.m. showed that Whitson is listed as a patient at Miami Valley Hospital, but a request had been made to not release his medical condition.

Moore faces a single count of attempted murder, which is a second-degree felony. He is awaiting arraignment in the Miami County Jail.

Also arrested during the search of the 517 Walnut St. were Stacy R. Clark, 44, of Piqua. She was taken into custody on arrest warrants out of Montgomery County and Gregory E.S. Howery, 28, of Piqua. He was arrested on a warrant out of Wood County. The arrests of Clark and Howery are unrelated to the shooting.

Officers seized 6-8 capsules, possibly containing heroin from 519 Walnut St.

While police believe that the motive for the shooting is an argument over a female, additional information is being sought as the investigation continues.

The weapon involved in the shooting has not yet been recovered. It is described as a revolver.

Jamison asks that anyone who finds a weapon, contact Miami County 911 immediately at either 911 or (937) 440-9911.

“While we cannot judge the reliability of this tip,” said Jamison, “special attention should be paid to the area between 1115 Vine St. and 519 Walnut St. for the abandoned weapon. We suggest that residents in that area check their own property and notify us immediately if any weapon is found.”
