SIDNEY — Police are continuing to investigate incidents in which a group traveling on Interstate 75 attempted to pass counterfeit money.
Three people have been arrested in connection with the incidents, which occurred in Sidney, Piqua and Troy. “They’re all the same folks,” Sidney Police Sgt. Rob Jameson said Friday. He said additional charges are probable as police continue their investigation.
Police arrested the suspects last week after an incident at the Arby’s restaurant in Sidney the evening of Aug. 14. According to a police incident report, personnel at Arby’s reported a woman passed a counterfeit $100 bill at the business. Police arrested Romell M. Key, 21, of Cincinnati, and Arielle Jones, 19, of Detroit. Key was charged with failure to comply with an order of a police officer. Jones was charged with forgery. Key, with Jones as a passenger, had fled from police after the incident was reported. Key lost control while turning right from Grove Street onto Wagner Avenue. His auto went over the curb and hit the front porch at 432 N. Wagner. The car came to rest in the side yard. Key fled on foot and police later caught him. Jameson said questioning of the first two suspects led to the arrest of Keri R. Edwards, 21, of Chicago.
The Piqua Daily Call reported Edwards is facing two counts of fifth-degree felony forgery. Numerous businesses in Piqua and Troy reported incidents of counterfeit bills on Aug. 14.
In Sidney, incidents were reported at CVS, Tim Horton’s and Subway, Jameson said, in addition to Arby’s. The suspects may have hit other local businesses, too, he said.
