Brown to speak in Sidney

SIDNEY — Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, will be in Sidney, Monday, Aug. 31, to meet constituents and speak about Social Security.

Brown will speak at the Senior Center of Sidney and Shelby County, 304 S. West Ave., at 11 a.m. He plans to be there for about 45 minutes before traveling to Jackson Center to tour the Airstream Inc. facility and talk with workers, according to Lauren Kulik, deputy communications director for the senator.

The speech at the senior center is open to the public. The center will open to members at 8 a.m. and to others at 10:30 a.m. that day.

“We’re pleased that he’s taking the time to stop at the Senior Center to see all we have to offer,” said Executive Director Eileen Wiseman.

After his stop at Airstream, Brown will visit the ContiTech Plant in St. Marys.

His swing through Shelby and Auglaize counties is not part of a formal tour of Ohio, Kulik said, but he’ll visit many other places during the week.

“He likes to get around to see as much as possible. Because it’s a state work period, he can drive farther from Cleveland,” she said. Whenever the Senate is not in session in Washington, D.C., senators are able to spend more time than just weekends in their home states, connecting with constituents.
