Big Brothers Big Sisters seeks high school volunteers

SIDNEY — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shelby and Darke County has announced that volunteer opportunities are now open for high school students to participate in the organization’s 17th annual Big Buddies program.

The Buddies program is a nine-month commitment during which high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors volunteer to work with and mentor elementary school students two times per month. The older students can earn community service hours for their participation. During these meetings, the high school students, under the supervision of Big Brothers Big Sisters staff, work with one or two children on different educational and recreational activities. This year’s program will focus on positive life skills and will also promote social and education-enhancing activities.
