SIDNEY — The area’s top-ranked team, the Lehman Lady Cavs, took on county rival and once-beaten Anna in Western Ohio Soccer League action Thursday afternoon at blustery Lehman, and the host team came away with a 3-1 victory to remain unbeaten in WOSL action.
The Lady Cavs are now 4-0 in conference play and up their record to 7-3-1 on the season. Anna loses for only the second time this season and is now 10-2 overall and 3-2 in the WOSL.
Both teams return to action on Saturday, the Lady Cavs hosting Greenview, and Anna at home against West Liberty Salem.
“It was a hard-fought game,” said Lehman head coach Jeremy Lorenzo. “Anna came in 10-1 and they’re scrappy kids. And they came out playing hard and playing with a lot of enthusiasm, and we had to adjust to that.”
Lehman took a 2-0 lead in the first half, both goals coming from Kaitryn O’Leary. It looked like it would be that way at the half, but Anna’s Holly Boyd hit from long distance to cut the lead to 2-1.
“They got that goal before the half, and now it’s a very tight game,” said Lorenzo. “But we were able to play well again in the second half.”
Grace Monnin, who had an assist in the first half, scored a goal in the second, with Molly Safreed getting the assist.

Trotwood 4-0
SIDNEY — The Sidney Lady Jackets kept their Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division hopes alive Wednesday night with a 4-0 victory over visiting Trotwood in high school girls soccer action.
The win put the Lady Jackets at 2-1-0 in the North and 8-3-1 overall heading into another North game Saturday at Piqua. The two teams are tied for second behind league-leading Vandalia.
The score was 0-0 until just a minute remained in the first half. That’s when Emily Wiesenmayer sent a corner kick that Ashley Egan headed into the goal for a 1-0 lead.
The second half was all Sidney, starting with a goal by Wiesenmayer off an assist from Adrianne Miller just five minutes in.
Kaitlyn Davis got a penalty kick after a handball in the box and converted at the 31-minute mark, and the final goal came when a corner kick bounced around inside the box and Erin Ivey put it in the net.
“Trotwood came out very quick and aggressive and we had to match their physicality,” said Sidney coach Stacey Goffena. “We had a few opportunities in the first half but couldn’t get one to go until a minute left. I’m glad we were able to connect a little more in the second half and get some goals to go. Finishing offensively has been a struggle for us this whole season.”

Tigers win 4-2
over West Milton
JACKSON CENTER — The Jackson Center Tigers hosted West Milton in boys soccer Thursday night and came away with a 4-2 victory.
The win improves the Tigers to 5-6-1 on the season.
Gavin Booser and Bryce Sosby led the way for the Tigers, both finishing with two goals and one assist.
Goalie Corbin Murphy had seven saves.
