BOTKINS — The Botkins Village Council met Tuesday night to pass and read several important ordinances.
They first passed all the necessary energy and gas aggregation resolutions to get the ball rolling with that process since the ballot measure passed on Nov. 3.
The representative from AEG said once they get election results certified and file everything, final approval should come through about Christmas. In mid-January they will have data from Dayton Power and Light and Dominion for gas and they’ll have the bids out around then. Residents will start seeing the rates on their bills between February and March
The council passed a small appropriation to move around some money in the communications account.
They did the first reading of the 2016 budget and the updated tax ordinance that is in accordance with the passing of House Bill 5.
Village Administrator Ryan Piche said their Edgewood Street project grant application is the number one grant application in the county. This means there is a high likelihood of it being funded.
The council also took some time to go over plans for the new subdivision. Discussion included where a retention pond might go, how sewer and water lines will be placed and how big the streets and sidewalks will be.
The Botkins FFA visited council to ask permission to use the test plot out at the community park. Last year they harvested 207 bushels, at $8.47 a bushel, and got a check for $1,756. This money is used for leadership events, judging, job interviews and any other small expenses the group comes across. Instead of having the members pay for it, they take it out of this account.
The council passed a motion to allow them to use the area.
Petty Officer Matthew Frilling visited council to thank the village. Frilling just got back from a recent deployment and said his wife told him the village helped her out a lot while he was gone. As a thank you, he presented an American flag to the Village of Botkins that was flown over Iraq on July 27 of this year.
Lucas Greve retired from the Botkins Fire Department on Aug. 31 after 16 years. The village presented him with a plaque for his service.
