Nov. 20, 1915

An interesting program was presented at the high school assembly yesterday morning when the band played a number of selections, including the official Corn Song of the Buckeye State, in which the entire high school joined in singing. Interesting talks were given by some of the pupils now in high school who have taken the trip to Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and New York on the Buckeye Corn Special. Participating in the program were: Ruth Bennett, Raymond Sexauer, Foster Wilson, Doris Faust, Ruth Lee, Lewis Windle, Joe Stockstill and Margaret Duncan. Also appearing on the program was Congressman Russell.

A large plate glass window in the basement front of Scott’s Novelty Store was broken sometime during the night and several pairs of gloves stolen. As far as can be determined no one heard the crash of the broken glass. Police were also advised that someone stole several pairs of shoes from in front of the Cut Price Shoe Store yesterday afternoon. It is believed the thefts were committed by the same parties.

Nov. 20, 1940

A report released today by State Auditor Joseph T. Ferguson of the recent examination made of the Shelby county auditor’s office compliments the personnel of the office and County Auditor Billing for the neat and accurately kept records. The report further points out that the official fees and public moneys coming into the hands of the official have been correctly and promptly accounted for.

Thirty-two Sidney High School basketball aspirants reported to Coach Brown this week as the Yellow Jackets opened practice sessions in preparation for their inaugural meeting with Coldwater on November 29. Among the 32 to start drills were seven lettermen from last year’s squad. These included: Don Barr, Hap Brown, Bob Donkelaar, Dick Henke, Wilbur Johnston, Bernie Kerns and Stewart Moon.

Nov. 20, 1965

The Anna Rockets and Jackson Center’s Tigers still remain in a knot for first place honors in the Shelby County league race, after each gained a victory Friday night. Both teams have a 3 – 0 record to date. Anna pulled a 92-86 win over Botkins’ Trojans on Anna’s court, while Jackson Center came from behind to outgo Fairlawn’s Jets, 49 – 41, on Fairlawn’s floor. Anna’s Rockets are really setting the nets to fire this year. Bob Anderson’s boys have averaged 87 points per game so far.

Shelby County Commissioners appeared committed today to construction of a new county home to replace the present 99 year old structure. Chairman Roger Elsass said that he believes that a new home should be given first priority in consideration of future development. Commissioners William Sandham and Merton Maxwell spoke along the same lines as the chairman. Thus far, speculation has placed probable cost of a new home at between $500,000 and $600,000.

Nov. 20, 1990

There is a new subdivision in the Village of Fort Loramie. Gary Bensman, who happens to be the current mayor, and his wife Emily are the developers of the Bender Park Subdivision. There will be multi-family lots as well as single family homes.

There was other news out of Ft. Loramie as well. Last May, the body of a man was discovered in Loramie Creek. He had been shot in the head. Officials were sure he had been killed elsewhere and the body dumped here. New leads have now been developed. The man was from Indiana. He was Todd Anthony George, 24 years old. There are potential suspets.
