WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP (Logan County) — A DeGraff woman died in a three-vehicle crash Friday at the intersection of state Routes 235 and 274 in Logan County.

Sue Hunkler, 67, of DeGraff, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that happened at approximately 4:40 p.m. According to police, Hunkler pulled into the path of a semi driven by James A. Priest, 59, of Pataskala.

She was northbound on state Route 235 in a sport utility vehicle when she reportedly failed to stop at a red light and was struck on the driver’s side by the tractor-trailer, which was eastbound on state Route 274.

The semi then struck a pickup truck which was stationary, waiting to turn south onto state Route 235. The driver of which was Stephen D. Elliott, 60, of Sidney. He was not injured.

A MedFlight helicopter landed at nearby Indian Lake High School and transported Priest to The OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, police reported.

The semi was carrying a load of automobile engines, which spilled onto the road forcing officials to close the intersection to traffic for several hours.

Emergency personnel from Indian Joint Fire District, Indian Lake EMS and Huntsville EMS along with deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.

It is the seventh fatal crash in Logan County this year, according to the Bellefontaine Examiner.
