SIDNEY — Shelby County dog licenses for 2016 are now on sale, according to Amy Berning, county auditor.

Three-year and permanent licenses are available for dogs in addition to the traditional one-year license.

The registration fee for a one-year license is $16; for a three-year license, $48; and a permanent license, $160. All dogs who have reached 3 months of age must be licensed.

Three-year and permanent licenses can be purchased only at the auditor’s office. These longer-term licenses are not refundable in the event of the death of an animal or if the dog is passed to a new owner.

Because Jan. 31 is a Sunday, the last day to purchase renewal licenses for 2016 will be Feb. 1. If a license is purchased after Feb. 1, it will cost $32 for one year, $64 for for three years, and $176 for a permanent one.

The fee for a kennel license is $80 if purchased by Feb. 1. After that date, the charge is $160. Kennel licenses can be purchased only from the dog warden at the Shelby County Animal Shelter, 1100 Clem Road.

One- and three-year licenses can be purchased online at www.shelbycountyauditors.com. Online purchases require an additional fee of $2.25 per license for one-year licenses and $3.75 per licenses for three-year licenses and 50 cents per order to cover postage.

Licenses can be ordered by mail by sending the appropriate fees and self-addressed stamped envelopes to Shelby County Auditor, 129 E. Court St., Sidney, OH 45365. The owner’s name, address, phone number and a description of the dog including age, color and breed, must be provided.

In-person purchases can be made at the auditor’s office and at the animal shelter. There are no handling fees for in-person purchases.
