ANNA — A 12-0 run to end the the first half sparked the Anna Lady Rockets to a bounce-back victory Thursday night in girls County basketball action at home, 49-23 over the Jackson Center Lady Tigers.

The Lady Rockets, who suffered their first loss Monday, remained the only unbeaten team in the County standings, finishing the first round of league play with a 6-0 record. Overall, they are now 11-1 and are back in action on Saturday at Botkins in another County test.

Jackson Center fell two games behind in the league standings at 3-2 and is now 7-4 overall after its fourth loss in the last five games. They face another tough County test Saturday at home against Fort Loramie.

The two teams traded buckets in the opening quarter, with Anna leading 8-7. The Lady Rockets scored the first four points of the second quarter to make it 12-7, but Jackson’s Cassie Meyer hit a three to cut the lead to 12-10.

At that point, however, Anna went on its 12-0 run to take a 24-10 bulge into the intermission.

The final points in the run were two free throws by Macey Huelskamp, and she became the only player for Anna to score in the first half besides Sarah Bettinger and Avery Bensman, with Bettinger having 12 in the first two quarters and Bensman 10.

Bettinger led the Lady Rockets in scoring with 15 and both Bensman and Huelskamp added 10.

Meyer finished with 11 for the Lady Tigers.

Loramie 43, Houston 38, ot

FORT LORAMIE — Fort Loramie outscored Houston 14-9 in the overtime to survive an upset bid and pull out a 43-38 victory in County play Thursday.

The Lady Redskins are now 4-1 in the County and 8-2 overall. Houston, which lost by just three to unbeaten Sidney Monday, is now 3-3 in the league and 5-9 overall.

The Lady Redskins had to rally to send the game to overtime, trailing the Lady Wildcats by five after three quarters.

Jess Boerger had 23 for the winners. She did not shoot well from the field, 5 for 17, but was 12 for 16 from the line. She also had seven rebounds.

For Houston, Jenna Winner had 17 points and seven rebounds.

Russia 51, Botkins 33

RUSSIA — Russia held Botkins without a point in the second quarter and that was enough in a 51-33 victory for the Lady Raiders Thursday at home.

Russia’s fourth straight win put the Lady Raiders at 3-3 in the league and 7-6 overall. Botkins, which had won four of its last five, dropped to 1-5 in the league and 7-6 overall.

Tiffany Hatcher sank four three-pointers on her way to 16 points, and Cameo Wilson added 14. Sarah Bergman had 10 for Botkins.

DELPHOS — Minster remained unbeaten in Midwest Athletic Conference play with a 55-29 rout of Delphos St. John’s on the road Thursday.

The Lady Wildcats are 5-0 in the league and 11-2 overall now.

Minster, which outscored Delphos 13-4 in the second quarter to take a 27-11 lead, was led by Courtney Prenger and Rosie Westerbeck with 12 apiece.

MARIA STEIN — New Knoxville Local edged Marion Local in Midwest Athletic Conference action Thursday, 34-31 in action at Marion.

The Lady Rangers go to 3-1 in the league and 8-4 overall. Marion drops to 2-2 and 8-5.

The second quarter was the key for the Lady Rangers. They led 13-10 after one quarter, then held the Lady Flyers to just two points in the second quarter for a 23-12 halftime lead.

Kenzie Schroer had 19 to lead Knoxville, including 5 for 7 from the line. Emily Mescher had 13 for Marion.
