TROY — The Troy Lady Trojans should have known they were in trouble when they trailed Sidney at the half, and the Lady Jackets’ top scorer, Sylvia Hudson, had just four points.

No way to keep a player like her down all night, and when she warmed up, it was no contest, the 8th-ranked Lady Jackets routing the Lady Trojans 45-26 to move to 15-0 on the season.

The win also put Sidney at 4-0 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division with one game remaining in the first round.

Sidney’s next game will be Monday at the Classic in the Country at Berlin Hiland against North Royalton at 1:20 p.m. After that game, Sidney concludes regular-season play with five straight GWOC North games.

“We took better care of the ball tonight and were able to knock down shots we needed to finish the game,” said Sidney coach Megan Mummey. “They took away (Celena) Taborn by fronting and backing her and it opened it up for Hudson to get on the boards. She had 15 total rebounds, including seven offensive rebounds to stick the ball back in for us.

“We have a tough test Monday against North Royalton,” she added. “We have to be able to shoot better and be able to drive the ball in for easier shots.”

Sidney led 9-4 after a quarter and upped the lead to 22-13 at the half, despite Hudson scoring just four points and 6-foot-2 Celena Taborn being held scoreless. But senior guard Kaitlyn Davis scored all eight of her points in the second quarter, including a pair of three-pointers, to enable the Lady Jackets to increase their lead.

Then in the third quarter, Hudson got untracked, scoring seven of her team’s 10 in the period as Sidney pulled out to a 32-20 lead. The Lady Jackets then outscored Troy 13-6 in the final period, with Hudson adding nine more points.

She finished with 20 to lead all scorers and post a double-double. Davis was next with eight.

Troy had nobody with more than six points.

In the junior varsity game, Sidney came back from a 20-15 halftime deficit to win 45-32.
