Edison women fall to Owens

PIQUA — The Edison Community College women’s basketball team trailed a strong Owens Tech team by just four points at the half, but had a rough third quarter in a 103-84 loss Wednesday night.

The loss left the Lady Chargers at 2-2 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference and 4-10 overall this season.

Riverside graduate Brooke Hickey hit seven three-pointers in 10 attempts and wound up with 30 points, one more than teammate Brooke Dunlevy as the two combined for 59 of the 84 points. Carly Buzzard added 14.

Edison fell behind 25-13 after a quarter, but ourscored Owens 27-19 in the second quarter to make it just 44-40 at the half. But Owens exploded for 31 points in the third quarter and Edison could not recover.

The Lady Chargers were 27 for 55 from the field, 49 percent, and 21 for 28 from the line, 75 percent.

They were outrebounded 38-28. Sydney Miller pulled down nine rebounds for Edison and was one of three Lady Chargers to finish with five assists. The other two were Dunlevy and Cadence Jacobs.

Owens shot about the same as Edison from the floor, 51 percent, but attempted 33 more shots. That was enough to erase Edison’s 21-4 edge at the free throw line.
