WAPAKONETA — Toxicology tests found a teen who died when his car hit a building in December did not have anything in his system, according to details released Friday by the Wapakoneta Police Department.

Dakota Rostorfer, 19, of Wapakoneta, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in the 200 block of East Auglaize Street.

“Toxicology tests resulted in nothing found in Rostorfer’s system,” Police Chief Russel Hunlock said. “He was not wearing his seatbelt.”

A police officer found the accident at 3:45 a.m. A vehicle had struck the main building at Mike Swaney’s Buick/GMC dealership, 211 E. Auglaize St.

Police asked the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team to assist with the investigation. Investigators determined Rostorfer was driving a 1995 Honda Civic eastbound on Auglaize Street when the car went airborne while crossing the railroad tracks. When the vehicle landed, it continued eastbound and went out of control and started to turn sideways. The car then went off the right side of the street and onto a sidewalk, hit a large flower pot, and then a parked vehicle in the Swaney’s lot.

The car continued and struck the northwest corner of the building. The vehicle split in half upon impact and Rostorfer was ejected. The impact caused a good portion of the building to collapse.

The minimum speed of the car was estimated at 87 mph when it went airborne. The vehicle traveled 106 feet from the time it went airborne to when it landed.
