RUSSIA — The Russia Raiders outscored Marion Local 7-4 in the overtime to pull out a 60-57 victory in non-league boys basketball action Saturday night in the regular-season finale.

The Raiders, who one night earlier clinched an outright county championship, finished the regular season with a 19-3 record and a 2-0 mark in overtime games this season. They return to action Friday in the sectional tournament at Piqua against Bradford.

“We led for most of the game, but we got down four with two minutes to go,” said Russia coach Spencer Cordonnier. “We got a steal and a basket, then got a stop on defense and tied it up with twenty seconds left in regulation.

“Offensively, we weren’t sharp but it was a physical game,” he added. “We couldn’t get much done. It was a typical Russia-Marion Local game. And they just murdered us on the offensive boards. It was a great game to have right before the tournament.”

Cole Tebbe led the Raiders with 16 points and Jack Dapore added 13.

Derek Albers had 18 to lead Marion Local, Kyle Homan 14 and Matt Kahlig 11.

The Flyers are 11-10 with one regular-season game remining, Friday at home against Fort Recovery.
