The Versailles girls high school bowling team finished fourth over the weekend in the Division 2 State Bowling Tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.
The Lady Tigers finished seventh in the first round to make it to the match-play round. In the first round, they had a 2503 in regular games and a 557 in baker games.
In match play, they defeated Norton (Summit County) in five games, winning the last one 185-163. That put them opposite Napoleon, and the Lady Tigers lost in three straight.
Mechanicsburg was the eventual champion.
Versailles was led by Hannah Niekamp with a 600 series on games of 204, 182 and 214. Brigette Holsapple had a 546 on games of 183, 191 and 172, freshman Morgan Heitkamp had a 480 on games of 159, 173 and 148, and Olivia Bruening had a 478 on games of 139, 204 and 135.
• The Versailles boys also competed but finished 13th in the qualifying round with a 3335. Regular games were 912, 954 and 944 and baker games were 181, 168, and 176.
Luke Shellhaas led the Tigers with a 623 on games of 193, 212 and 218. Alex Groff had games of 217, 183 and 187 for a 587, and teammate Brody Hyre was just one pin back on games of 202, 167 and 217. Kyle Cotner had games of 154, 221 and 181 for a 559 series.
Urbana defeated Coldwater in the finals to claim the state title.
