HOUSTON — When David Stammen, 16, was diagnosed with stage-four Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma a few months ago, the community sprang into action to help the Stammen family.

Family friend, Angie Rosenbeck immediately started planning a 5K fundraising event with all proceeds going to help pay for David’s medical expenses. “I thought of a 5K because David does track at school and it’s a healthy thing for the community,” Rosenbeck said.

The “Walk with a Lymph 5K Run/Walk” will be held Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Hardin-Houston Local School.

Race day registration starts at 7 a.m. in the school commons, with the 1-mile fun run starting at 8:40 a.m. and the 5K starting at 9 a.m. The course will start in the school parking lot, travel down Smith Road and finish at the finish line on the school’s track.

They will hand out awards to first male and female overall, as well as fist, second, and third of each age group. Interested participants can register online at cantstoprunningco.com or register the morning-of.

Rosenbeck originally had a goal of getting 300 people signed-up. “As of right now (Sunday, Feb. 28), I have 350 confirmed! It is truly amazing how this community is coming together,” Rosenbeck said.

All proceeds from the race will go to David’s cancer fund. Anyone looking to donate to the Stammen family in other ways that attending the race may make donations to “David Stammen’s Cancer Fund” by calling or visiting any Osgood State Bank branch. David has requested that any amount of funds raised over the amount needed to pay his medical expenses be used to buy new gaming consoles and video games for Dayton Children’s Hospital.
