Staff report

NEW CARLISLE — Sidney was supposed to play its first home game Monday in high school baseball, but because of a wet field, the game was moved to its opponent’s field in New Carlisle.

Didn’t matter, though, because the Jackets got a pitching gem from Conor Beer in notching their first victory of the season by a 3-1 score over the Tecumseh Arrows.

Sidney took a 1-2 record into a Tuesday home game with Chaminade.

Beer went the distance on a four-hitter for the Jackets. He fanned one and walked just two.

Sidney broke a scoreless deadlock with a run in the top of the fourth, then added single runs in the sixth and seventh after the Arrows had tied it up in the fifth.

The Jackets had seven hits, including two apiece from Austin McLain and Dillon King. Both of them singled and doubled.
