SIDNEY — A rough draft of the 2016 photo contest was distributed to members of the Sidney Recreation Board during its March meeting.

There will be photo guidelines that each participant must follow. There will be four categories, wildlife, landscapes, flora and adventure and outdoor recreation. Judging will be done by the city of Sidney’s Recreation Board members. Each participant will be asked to fill out an entry form along with their photos.

Photos will be due back on Sept. 9, 2016 by 4 p.m.

In other business, the board:

• Discussed a request by Sidney American Legion Post 217 to rename the large A-diamond at Custenborder “Veterans Memorial Field.”

• Learned several businesses have agreed to sponsor summer recreation programs. For swimming lessons, Dr. Alvetro will be the sponsor. The Backpack Program will be sponsored by Remax Reality-Gay Smith; Sidney Body Carstar-Tom Martin; Power Group (women philanthropy group); and Jeff and Diane Amick.

Letters were sent out to many local corporations, local business and many organizations asking for support for the summer recreation programs as well as swimming lessons.

• Was updated pm the dog park issue. The Dog Park Benefactors is continuing to look for a location as Sidney City Council disagreed with the request to have the park in the vacant lot next to BK Root Beer Stand. It was suggested Riverbend Park be used but the Dog Park Benefactors disagreed with the location stating that people may forget that this location is available to them since it is tucked away in a neighborhood.

• Discussed the rates for tickets for the swimming pool. Seasonal ticket prices will remain the same. Replacement tickets will cost $10 and the preschool daily rate will be raised from $2 to $2.50.
