Couple celebrate 70 years

SIDNEY — Reba and Norman Jones, of Sidney, will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary, April 9, 2016.

Norman and the former Reba Honaker were married April 9, 1946, in the residence of the Rev. Gilson Pearson and Rachel Jones in Jones Hollow, McCreary County, Kentucky, April 9, 1946. The Rev. Jones, grandfather of the bridegroom, performed the ceremony. Witnesses were Monroe Jones, Nina (Cotterman) Jones, Richard Jones, father of the bridegroom, and Rachel Jones.

Norman is the son of the late Sarah and Richard Jones. He has a living sister, Evelyn Jones, and a living brother, Arnold “Hoover” Jones, both of Sidney. Four brothers, Walter, Monroe, Romer and Gilson, and five sisters, Dora Maxwell, Jaura Jones, Anna Inman, Elva Stone and Nova Hawkey, are deceased.

Reba is the daugher of the late Winfurd and Ora Honaker. She has two living brothers and sister-in-law, Marion T. Honaker, of Sidney, and Larry and Shirley HOnaker, of Oregon. Two sisters, Wanda Trubert and Dorothy Workman, and four brothers, Paul Honaker, Floyd Honaker, William Honaker and Phillip Honaker, are deceased.

The Joneses have two daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah and ivan Michael and Norma Jean Jones, all of Sidney. A son, Monte Richard Jones, is deceased. They have four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Norman retired from the Stolle Corp., May 1, 1991, after 47 years of service. Reba retired in October 1993 from Wilson Memorial Hospital after many years in the nursing field.

Norman enjoys gardening, whittling and visiting with his grandchildren. Reba is a member of Eastern Star and enjoys flower-arranging and making jelly.
