President, CEO of Catholic Charities USA coming to Dayton

DAYTON – Sister Donna Markham, OP, PhD, the President and CEO of Catholic Charities USA, will visit Dayton on Wednesday, April 27, to help celebrate the 95th anniversary of Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley (CSSMV). During her visit, she will address attendees at the CSSMV Annual Leadership Luncheon.

Markham is the first woman to lead the 105 year-old social services network that is recognized as one of the largest charities in the United States. Headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, Markham serves as a key public policy adviser and advocate for services for the poor and marginalized. An Adri­an Dominican sister with a doctorate in clinical psychology, she has served in leadership positions in behavioral healthcare both in Canada and the U.S., and is an internationally-recognized author and speaker in areas pertaining to transformational leadership, organizational change management and the effective treatment of the mentally ill. She is currently engaged in global peace initiatives directed toward building bridges of understanding and collaboration among women leaders.

Also attending the Leadership Luncheon will be Bonnie K. Burman, Sc.D., Director of the Ohio Department of Aging (ODA). Catholic Social Services will be presenting a Community Partner Award to ODA in recognition of the state agency’s long-standing partnership in helping CSSMV provide services and support to older adults.

The CSSMV Annual Leadership Luncheon will take place at the Schuster Center in downtown Dayton, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27. During the luncheon, CSSMV CEO Laura Roesch will also provide an annual report on local social service initiatives and recognize leaders and organizations who have helped to forward the agency’s mission.
