Special ballot seems greedy

To the editor:

Once again I smell the need — the need for greed.

The decision to again place the permanent improvement school levy on a special ballot in August is disgusting.

I can only wonder how the school leaders can be so far out of touch with the community.

City utility rates have tripled, our properties were recently reassessed which will bring higher taxes, the city is gearing up for a street improvement project which will result in homeowners paying around $30 per linear foot for new curbs and gutters, and the Enviornmental Protection Agency-mandated sewer line inspections and repairs cost homeowners around $2,500 to repair.

With $15 million already in the bank, why is it more difficult for the schools to transfer funds between accounts than to spend additional money for a special election to try and push another unnecessary levy on the taxpayers?
