American officers at San Antonio are convinced that General Hugh L. Scott, chief of staff, soon will admit the futility of continuing the pursuit of Villa under existing circumstances. In the meantime dispatches tell of further movement by Carranzitas forces to resist further advanced by American troops in the pursuit of Villa.

James Sarver, who has been employed as bookkeeper by the Oldham Realty Co., has resigned his position and accepted a position as collector for the Citizens National Bank. Frederick McLean, who has held the position of collector at the bank, has taken a position as bookkeeper.

75 Years

April 22, 1941

Directed by C.A. Naffzigger, of the music faculty, members of the senior class will present “Melinka of Astrakhan” as their class operetta on May 7 and 8. The large cast will be headed by Miss Virginia Stump, Hubert Smith, Miss Caryl Whited, and Dick Russell in the leading roles.

Mrs. Daisy Runkle was elected president of the Tourist Club when members held their election at the final meeting of the year yesterday in the home of Mrs. D.H. McKellar. Mrs. O.B. Taylor was named vice president; Mrs. H.A. Lindsay, secretary, and Mrs. McKellar, treasurer.

50 Years

April 22, 1966

A pair of Holstein cows set the pace for the March Honor Roll of those cows enrolled in the Shelby County Dairyman’s Association production testing program. Trio Farms Holstein cow No. 111 produced 22,880 pounds of milk and 724 pounds of butterfat. This cow made this record as a four-year-old. This is the second lactation that this individual cow produced more than ten tons of milk in one lactation. The other pace setter was a nine-year-old cow in Norbert Cordonnier’s herd. This cow had a record of 20,570 pounds of milk and 685 pounds of butterfat.

In cooperation with the declarations issued by the Second Vatican Council that “lay people are called to share in the work of the church in a greater degree than ever before,” the Holy Angels Advisory Board has appointed a Lay Educational Study Group. Members of the group are: Sister Mary Rosaire, Sister John Claire, Dr. John Beigel, Mrs. Leo Brandewie, Sam Dunson, Raphael Echemann, George Fernandez, Mrs. Frank Gleason Jr., James McClain, Elmer Mirsberger, John Raterman and William Ross Jr.

April 22, 1991

A new administrator for Fair Haven Shelby County Home was employed Thursday by the Shelby County Commissioners. Anita Miller of Ottawa starts work as administrator on June 3, replacing Willian Stine, who is retiring July 31 after serving as administrator at Fair Haven since May 1980.

Pictured at the annual Shelby County Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner in Russia Thursday night are Eugene Branstool, newly-elected chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party, and Paul F. Billing, Anna, holding the plaque he received as the Shelby County “Democrat of the Year.” Billing was elected to the Shelby County Democratic Central Committee in May of 1958 and served with the committee until May 1976.
