WAPAKONETA — In conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Agency, the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, the Wapakoneta Police Department will be taking part in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 30, 2016, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

During those hours, residents are encouraged to bring their unused, leftover or expired prescription pills to our department for proper disposal. Prescription drug overdose is a serious public health crisis in Ohio. Since 2002, prescription medications have contributed to the deaths of more than 9,000 Ohioans.

The Wapakoneta Police Department will not accept any liquids, needles or inhalers during this event.

CVS Pharmacy is providing a drug take back receptacle that was installed in the lobby in 2015. Since the receptacle was installed officers have collected several pounds of unused prescription medication.

“Please bring your unwanted prescription medication to us so it does not fall into the wrong

hands,” said Russel L. Hunlock, Wapakoneta chief of police.
