WAPAKONETA — A Mercer County man was arrested following a vehicle pursuit involving several law enforcement agencies in Auglaize and Shelby counties.

Bobby L. Mowery, 41, of Mercer County, was arrested for fleeing and eluding. He is currently being held in the Auglaize County Jail on local charges and also on a Mercer County warrant.

According to Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon, at approximately 1:05 p.m. Monday the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office was alerted by Mercer County Sheriff’s Office that a wanted subject was traveling through Auglaize County. The person was wanted for fleeing and eluding in Mercer County.

A vehicle description was given and the vehicle was spotted traveling east on U.S. 33 by The Auglaize/Mercer Grand Lake Drug Task Force units who were watching for the vehicle. Two Auglaize County deputies on routine patrol attempted to stop the vehicle and a pursuit ensued traveling into numerous areas of southern Auglaize and northern Shelby County including Botkins, New Knoxville and New Bremen.

At times the pursuit reached speeds of well over 80 miles an hour. Several attempts were made to use stop sticks that were unsuccessful until the vehicle was in the area of Southland Road east of County Road 66A. A New Bremen Police unit was able to deploy the stop strips successfully. The vehicle continued to flee even though there was one flat tire.

The chase continued onto state Route 29 approaching the city of St. Marys. A St. Marys Police unit was then able to initiate a maneuver that caused the vehicle to go off of the roadway and overturn. The suspect fled the vehicle and went into a creek where he was apprehended.

“There were a lot of law enforcement agencies involved and all worked together to get this man stopped. Mowery obviously was desperate to get away and he didn’t,” said Solomon.

Agencies assisting included the Auglaize/Mercer County Drug Task Force, the Auglaize, Mercer and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Wapakoneta Police, St. Marys Police, Botkins Police, New Knoxville Police, New Bremen Police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The investigation into the incident is continuing.
