S & C Electric Company Director of Engineering, Procurement and Construction Dan Girard, of Burlington, Wisconsin, points out buildings behind him that altogether hold 1,078 LG Chem lithium ion battery packs. The batteries are located in a substation built by S & C Electric to convert AC electricity from nearby photovoltaic cells into storable DC electricity where it can be held until the Village of Minster needs it. The entire project, including the photovoltaic cells, was started by Half Moon Ventures. Tours were given of the facility Friday, May 6 after a ribbon cutting ceremony. The substation is located at 247 N. Ohio St., Minster. This is the first solar plus storage facility connected to a municipal utility in the United States.
