SIDNEY — Two teams that are playing today in sectional final games added a game against each other Monday at Lehman, and it came down to an unearned run in the top of the seventh that gave St. Henry a 7-6 victory over the Cavaliers.

Lehman is now 20-4 and takes on county rival Russia today at 5 p.m. at Piqua, with the winner advancing to the district championship on Friday.

St. Henry, 17-7, also plays today at 5, at Coldwater, against Fort Recovery, looking for a spot in the district finals against either Minster or Crestview.

“It was a game we both needed to play,” said Lehman head coach Dave King. “St. Henry is a very talented team and I was real pleased with how we hung in there against them. We got behind early, but came back and took the lead.”

St. Henry led 4-2 after batting in the fourth, then the Cavs put up three in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. St. Henry came back with two in the fifth to regain the lead, only to have Lehman tie it in the bottom of the inning.

So it came down to the seventh, and after an out, St. Henry got a single and a passed ball to put the go-ahead run in scoring position. A ground out then put the runner on third with two outs, but then a routine grounder was booted for an error that allowed the runner to score.

The Cavs then went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh.

Stephen Monnin went all seven for the Cavs and allowed 10 hits while striking out four and walking three.

“I thought Stephen did a good job,” said King. “He pitched well enough to win.”

Owen Smith singled and doubled for Lehman, Tyler Lachey had two singles, and both Nate Bosway and Max Schutt doubled. Bosway drove in two runs.

For the Redskins, Jason Evers had three hits, and both Mitchel Stammen and Nathan Lefeld had two hits. One of Stammen’s was a double.
