SIDNEY — The Sidney Civic Band will perform a free concert, “Pop Music: Old and New,” Friday, June 17, at 7 p.m. on the courtsquare.

“The hope of highlighting pop music is that it brings joy to people’s hearts,” Conductor Phil Chilcote said. “One of our joys as your band is to add some happiness and sparkle to the members of our audience. Heaven knows there’s plenty of darkness in the world, so we hope that folks will come out and enjoy our music and find some light in their lives and bounce in their step.”

The concert will feature music of the 1940s, ’50s, ’60s and ’70s. Of special note will be music that was performed by Elvis Presley, the Beatles, and the Temptations. “YMCA” and “The Electric Slide” will be selections that invite audience participation. Other pieces will be “Rock Around the Clock,” “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” “It’s So Easy to Fall in Love,” “Downtown,” “Joy to the World,” “Hang On Sloopy,” “Proud Mary” and “Celebrate.” The concert will conclude with “God Bless America” and John Philip Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”

A Spot pie will be awarded to an audience member and a tray of baked goods from Sidney’s Bob Evans’ restaurant will go to a lucky fan.

Refreshments will be available for purchase from Connection Point Church of God Relay for Life team beginning 30 minutes prior to the concert.

In case of rain, the concert will be at Connection Point Church of God, 1510 Campbell Road.
