Progressive dinner on the table for June 29

WAPAKONETA — The Petersburg Parishes will host a progressive dinner, on Wednesday, June 29, beginning at 6 p.m. at the five sites associated with Petersburg.

Dinner guests will travel from course to course and place to place in an event brimming with great food and fellowship. Proceeds from the dinner benefits the Petersburg Cares program, assisting parishioners in need, through gas, grocery, and other gift cards. Petersburg Cares is administered by the parishes’ Social Justice Commission, which includes seven volunteers representing all four churches.

The date of this year’s meal falls on the Roman Catholic Feast Day of Sts. Peter and Paul, who are the patron saints not only of Petersburg, but of Rome. The dinner offerings will therefore have an Italian theme:

• A toast to the origins of the Petersburg Parishes—Petersburg;

• An assortment of hot and cold appetizers, catered by J. Marie’s Wood-Fired Kitchen — St. Lawrence, Rhine;

• Salad, with the assistance of the Palazzo — Immaculate Conception, Botkins;

• Entree, accompanied by homemade breads & flavored butters — St. Joseph, Wapakoneta;

• Ending with dessert — St. John, Fryburg

Dessert will include tiramisu, Italian cream cake, fresh fruit and assorted Italian cookies.

For their entrée, dinner goers may choose either:

• Chicken scaparelli — chicken breasts and homemade Italian sausage, cooked to perfection with peppers, potatoes and herbs;

• Or baked ziti — pasta with a trio of cheeses and homemade marinara, as well as a side of fresh green beans, Italian style.

“We’re very excited about this year’s Progressive Dinner and its Italian theme. We know that all who attend will enjoy a great evening,” said Social Justice Commission member Rachel Barber.

The suggested minimum donation is $12 per person.

Those who wish to attend must make their reservation at the St. Lawrence/IC, St. John, or St. Joseph parish office no later than June 24. (Directions and schedule will be provided when reservations are made.)

The Petersburg Parishes of Botkins Immaculate Conception, Fryburg St. John, Rhine St. Lawrence, and Wapakoneta St. Joseph are named for the now-vanished Petersburg settlement (Sts. Peter and Paul Church,between Wapakoneta and Botkins) from which the parishes emerged in the 19th century. They are served by the Rev. Patrick Sloneker, pastor, and the Rev. Daniel Hunt, associate pastor. For more information, call 419-738-4924.
