PLAIN CITY — A two-vehicle accident near Plain City Thursday morning sent one person to the hospital and displaced thousands of minnows onto the pavement.
The accident took place on Middleburg-Plain City Road, just west of the village, on Thursday morning.
A 2007 Mercury Milan, driven by Gary D. Comer of Mechanicsburg, was eastbound on State Route 161, when it struck a 2013 Dodge truck hauling live bait, driven by Evan W. Dietz, of Botkins, according to Chief deputy Tom Morgan of the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
Dietz was southbound on Middleburg-Plain City Road when he did not stop for the stop sign.
Both vehicles struck the guardrail. The truck, registered to Indian Lake Wholesale Bait, then lost its load of three tanks of live bait, which crashed into the guardrail. Thousands of minnows and other bait fish were dumped onto the roadway by the force of the collision.
Comer was transported by Pleasant Valley Fire to Riverside Medical Center. Extent of his injuries not disclosed. Dietz was not injured, but was cited for failure to yield.
The accident remains under investigation by the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
Madison County Sheriff’s deputy assisted with traffic control.
