SIDNEY — The Sidney Kiwanis Club recently hosted a meeting of the Kiwanis Ohio Division 3 Council at the Moose Lodge here.

Lt. Governor Brad Kunze, of Bellefontaine, opened the meeting with a roll call of the clubs in attendance: Bellefontaine, New Madison, Piqua, Sidney and Troy. Representatives from Covington and Greenville were unable to attend.

The highlight of the meeting was the presentation of an Amtryke to Roz Abbott, 6, of Sidney. Amtrykes are personally designed for individuals who are unable to operate a traditional bicycle.

Ohio District Governor Amy Zimmerman, of Cincinnati, was in attendance and noted that this is the 36th Amtryke to be given away in the Ohio District this administrative year.

The Amtryke was paid for by the Kiwanis clubs in Division 3. Physical Therapists from the Shelby County Board of Developmental Disabilities will work with Roz in learning to navigate the Amtryke.

Kunze introduced Alexa Smith of West Liberty. She is serving as lieutenant governor of the Key Club for Division 2. She recently helped organize a new Key Club at West Liberty Salem High School and served as vice president. There are seven Key Clubs in Division 2.

Kunze next introduced Ashley Ho, of Piqua, who is serving as lieutenant governor of Division 3. She has been a member of the Piqua High School Key Club for four years and served as president her sophomore and junior years.

Janelle Zumberger, vice president of the Shelby County Aktion Club, listed the activities the club has been involved in since it was chartered last November.

Jason Benton, president of the Miami County Aktion Club, listed everything his club has accomplished. They were chartered in May 2016 but have been active since the beginning of the year.

The president of each club reported activities for this year. All clubs sponsor one or more service leadership programs, which include K-Kids, Builders Club, Key Club, Circle K and Aktion Clubs.

John Coffield, Lt. Gov.-elect, announced that the Club Leadership Education for Presidents and Secretaries would be at the Sidney Moose. All incoming officers were encouraged to attend. He also stated that he would have quarterly division meetings starting in October.

Gov. Zimmerman awarded the Riding the Path of Excellence to Krista Smith and Frank Stewart, of Troy, for their work with the Miami County Aktion Club. Also receiving the Riding the Path of Excellence awards were Jessica Guillozet and John Coffield, of Sidney, for their efforts with the Shelby County Aktion Club.
